Organizing Children's Reading

Allie Gershwin: There are hundreds of groups and chapters targeting literature in school libraries with severely anti-democratic intentions. She says they have grown vastly more organized, well-funded and effective over the past two years or so. One group is Patriot Mobile which has been successful in pulling at least 40 previously challenged titles from library shelves according to a New York Times report. Other groups include Florida Citizens Alliance whose co-founders worked on Ron DeSantis's transition committee; Utah Parents United who lobbied for bill banning what it calls sensitive material in schools but now argues that law needs to be more strictly enforced. AllieGERSHWIN: These are not sincerely concerned parents.
