Introduction
The question, what is art? Is urgently at the centre of the stuff that we've been talking about. We have lost this distinction in our culture between subjective and arbitrary. If you want clean, no nonsense basics, there's no better place to go than public goods. This week i read with you a work by plato's best student, aristotle,. He did a kind of pick up on what plato was saying about what art is in republic three. I think it contains the best definition of art to date. Despite the fact he was writing in the fourth century b c, i still think he got it just about right.
