Cortes and the Tlashcalans
Cortes wrote back to king charles the fifth that tlach cala was a beautiful city, larger than granada. But cortez had never actually been to granada, and this was probably another example of his tendency to manipulate the truth. While they were there, the tlashcalans also showed them some of their most precious relics. As bernardiaz later recarl s, they said their ancestors had told them that very tall men and women with huge bones had once dwelt among them but had died off. And to show us how big these giants had been, they brought us one leg bone which was very thick and the height of an ordinary sized man.
