The Importance of Dreams in Early Christianity
In the book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament, God warns his people about false prophets who merely say they dream dreams. Early Christians took these scriptural warnings to heart when it came to figuring out their own dreams. The Bible comes down pretty hard on divination. There shall not be anyone among you who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens or a sorcerer. That's due to astronomy. Despite all this, in both later Christian Byzantine culture and Islamic culture, ancient pagan dream techniques were put to monotheistic use.
