The Energy Crisis Is a Good Idea
We might surround the sun with solar collectors, a so-called dison sphere. That gives you a bit of energy. Maybe it's a good reason to do it instead of settling the universe. It turns out that when you calculate the physical limits of what we can achieve, they go very far. If we can build something like the disosphere, then we can definitely survive for billions of years even if we don't leave a solar system.
