CHAPTER

The Importance of Representation in Popular Culture

Disabled people are massively underrepresented in all areas of public life. Most people get their understanding of what it's like to live with a disability from popular culture. This informs their unconscious biases affecting how disabled people are treated and included or not included in the real world. Agatha Christie's texts are still so widely read today and used as inspiration for adaptations. It's therefore important that we approach her depictions of disability with an awareness of what is an appropriate portrayal and what could be harmful.
