The Importance of Flexibility in Renewable Energy
The question still comes back to marginal costs and marginal pricing. Do we want marginal pricing to determine dispatch? And if you think dispatch is only of wind and solar in a renewable energy world, what's the point of a marginal price? This is where our flexibility comes from. If you don't think that's gonna be done with a spot price, I have no idea what other kind of control mechanism you're intending to use. The Norwegian energy system was built around water. There is no gas in the Norwegian electricity system. They actually built a CCGT and never used it, didn't like it and dismantled it.
