Is the Higgs Boson a Disappointment?

The Higgs boson discovery was a big deal at the time and still is considered a triumph. But there were competitors out there with other ways to give particles mass. The universe doesn't seem to respect that theory, so we didn't have to worry about legal issues. What we ended up discovering was sort of like the most widely expected one.
