In some cases, like the more important talent is train ability. In some ses, your ability to improve with training is uncorrelated from how good you are at base line. You need a sampling period to figure out where you fit in sport. And i think one of the revelations in the sports jean for me was that in some cases, your ability to improve isn't related to what we see right now. The same thing's basically true about the medicine of exercise or training. No two people have the same exact response to that given stimulus. So what you really want to do is find what fits best for you.
