Putting a Program in a Computer Room
Pipes led to a cambrian explosion of little programmes being developed and glued together in this eunuch's room. Part of what made all this innovation happen was the community and the culture that was borne out of this eunuc room. No matter how you write your programme, you know you can glue it together with other programmes,. You can use shell scrips as first class programmes. To me, this makes him think f like early functional programming. It's just inputs and outputs and composing things together, gluing them together. I mean, it seems obvious in retrospect, but i guess there's lots of ways where it could go wrong.
