Id Software's John Carmack talks about the hacker ethic and how he embodied it as a teenager. The company released source code for most of its seminal games including Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen and Ultima IV. It was interesting to see people in the game modding community that were very possessive of their code they did not want to share theirs but wanted other people to take it cool things with them.

John Carmack is a legendary programmer, co-founder of id Software, and lead programmer of many revolutionary video games including Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, and the Commander Keen series.
