The Wisdom of the Young Abbot
Every morning we would wake up early and those who wished could go to this rather massive tower that had three or four stories. On one story, there was a giant drum and you could stand there around it. So I would wear earplugs and go and just listen to this beating of that drum calling us to the morning service. And on the floor above it, you could go up then after the drum and hear the gongs, the acid gong. When the sound would subside, we go to this hour long air service, which in itself was something to see mainly for the ballet of the young Abbot. Somehow expressing the soul of this wisdom and compassion.
