The Cambodian Cowboys and the Mine Strike
In 1992, nine miners were killed by a bomb in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Two men named Al Sheering and Tim Bedker formed a group known as the Cambodian Cowboys who plotted increasingly militant action. They set off a small bomb on the mine's satellite dish, blowing it to smithereens. The investigation that followed was perhaps the most intense in Canadian history. In 1994, 49-year-old Roger Warren was put on trial for murder but claimed he had been pressured into confessing through an RCMP informant. He was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of second-degree murder.
