Norway's Labour-led coalition government said it wants to open up a vast area in the barrens and Greenland seas for exploration. The decision has been met with universal condemnation from environmental organisations here and elsewhere. We've known for a long time that there are minerals like nickel, cobalt, manganese and copper thousands of meters down on the sea floor. But so far the technology to collect them has not been ready.
