The Green Knight and the Green Man
The green man is a pagan image of a grotesque severed head with emergent foliage from the mouth, beard and hair line. He is alsoe tegenesis of both the green knight of athurian legend and of robin hood. And so clearly, this is going to be the kind of guardian or protector that the lese is not of a person, but of a place, which is the woods.
