Many writers have contemplated suicide in their artistic despair. Tolstoy had to hide ropes and guns from himself around the writing of anna krenina. When we talk about god, i pose we are talking about something miraculous working within us that we cannot quite explain or put into words. And emerson says, trust thyself. Every heart vibrates to that iron string, except the place the divine providence has found for you, the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events. This is remarkable advice, because very often we resist the time we were born. We long for a time that we were not born into. In this passage, i see solitude, conspiracy, conformity.
