United States Military Assistance to South Korea
The UN Commission on Korea was a coterie of military observers installed after worries about aggression emanating from the South more than from the North. American law had basically made support for Korean unification illegal. There were 500 American officers and 700 civilian technicians in South Korea. Nowhere was the Iron Curtain less formidable than on the 38th parallel.
