The Origins of Carthage
The traditional date of the foundation of Carthage was given as 814 BC by ancient scholars. Archaeologically, the earliest occupational layers currently extend back as far as 760 BC. The city more than likely was founded because its location was along the trading route to Gates. There really was a metan and pygmalion on the historical record, though not much is known about their reigns.
