The Magic of Self-Making
I think as we are increasingly at a more and more digital age, in a landscape that is basically like a literalization of ideas about self-making, the idea that what you want to see is reality. I don't just mean social media and the fact that we could present ourselves in a certain way. The news that shows up is curated for us by the fact that there are algorithms that know what we want to see and give us more of it. So many of us spend huge chunks of our lives plugged into a system that makes desire literal. That magic is real there.
