In the 20th and 21st century, we like making weird lists with bizarre phenomenological terms. So on the basis of this 20th chapter of John, I want to describe a five step process to Christian encounter. We go from absence to vestiges to witnesses and then finally to a veiled presence as the Lord appears under the guise or semblance of a gardener. And then he is made plain to her and known to her.
