Do You Think the DOMA Act Is the Best Music of All Time?

There were zero states in 1996 that had marriage equality that recognized same-sex marriage. The Defense of Marriage Act, codified into law, made a federal definition of marriage and spouse. DOMA's section two allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed under the laws of other states. That has been superseded by the Obergefell decision because now there are no states that can refuse torecognize same-sex weddings.
