Is There Anything Different About Red Blood Cells?

There is a generalized increase in the amount of self free dna that you can observe in the serum and outside of cells during inflammation, infection and sepsis. So we know that the dienne goes up. We know that the red blood cells combine diennae. And so the question is, at higher concentrations that are associated now with high levels of inflammation or sepsis, is there anything different that happens about these red blood cells?
