Is There a Difference Between Emotions and Beliefs?

When we are looking at the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, the criteria for a delusion are almost entirely epistemic. So people can have irrational beliefs, but deciding when emotional outbursts are inappropriate is slightly more subjective. But still, it seems possible to think that some emotional reactions are not appropriate to the situation. You be, in certain situations, very appropriate to be scared, but maybe not when you're seeing a spider on the wall.
