In his early twenties, Edison takes a job at the main telegraph office in Boston. When he isn't working, he's experimenting and scoping out new gadgets to invent. In January of 1869, he'd been there roughly nine months. He announces in The Telegraph that he's leaving his job as an operator to become a full-time inventor.
