What Happens When You Learn Things?

When you learn things, they take up less space in your long term memory. They kind of get summoned into your working memory. If you know a lot about the french revolution, that might just uone slot,. And then you can start thinking about other things and have them take up one slot each. This is called chunking. A realy god example of this is with chess players. So there is a classic study about this where you show chess players a position on the chessboard, so pieces on the chess board arranged somehow, and then you show it to them for something like f seconds, or maybe less time than that., and then you ask them to recreate that position.
