The Importance of Listening
For those of us who have benefited from empire, it becomes an act of personal courage to shut up. I can quote Dr. Bergman on this point when he writes, humanist depends on being faithfully heard. Being faithfully heard depends on risky speech of self disclosure uttered in freedom before a faithful listener. And that's huge for all the listeners and sometimes the one offering the risky speech.
