You have to signal in advance that you're a hard worker and that you will persevere. That means you may be a value just for that skill. George Clooney went to audition after audition as a young actor and very rarely had much success. It wasn't until later in his career that he realized that the audition is a problem for the people giving the audition, that they want to find an actor for the role.
