The Civil War in South Carolina

In 1832, Congress passed a Tariff Act that was supposed to be a compromise. John Calhoun and the people of South Carolina were enraged. They declared the Tariff Acts of 1828 and 1832 null and void. The prospect of a civil war was suddenly very real.
