When we were kids, the average American family spent about $1,600 on clothing and shoes per family in today's dollars. The average American family throws away about 80 pounds of clothing a year. And so maybe it was marketing stupidity, or maybe it was just a clarity about if we offered consumers really high quality and a set of values that they could count on.
