How Do I Know if a Recommended System Works?

There is no objective measure to know if a recommender system works. The trick is guessing what's going to show up in the empty fields. Recommender systems are designed not primarily to help someone who's like really into music discover new stuff, but rather to just provide something to listen to. A study found that writing recommended for you over the recommendation results improved satisfaction more than fixing technical accuracy measures.
