The middle kingdom was a dynamic, lively and politically stable world that produced huge amounts of art. The royal courts of the twelfth dynasty patronized poets who worked in writing. Life in ancient egypt existed on a spectrum from tight centralized control to total fragmentation. With the end of the tw12 dynasty around 17 60 b c we can see the beginnings of a slide back along the spectrum toward decentralization and fragmentation.
