What Motivated You to Study Divinity?

When you were growing up in divided berlin, the idea of God and religion was very foreign to you. You went on to pursue a master's degree in divinity at yale. Why did you choose this particular course of study? It took me a long time before i called them spiritual questions. I wanted to study it like i wanted to apply my mind.
