The Can Opener Bridge

The can opener bridge in Durham, North Carolina has been the site of numerous collisions between trucks and rail cars. A local resident installed a video camera to document these incidents; he's captured over 100 videos so far. The state put up signs warning drivers that their vehicles were too tall for the bridge but they still kept hitting it. In October 2019, work crew converged on the site to raise the bridge from 11-foot-8 to 12-foot-4.
