The Importance of a 64-Bit Computer

It's not that the numbers don't fit in the space available for each number. They're represented by something called floating point numbers, which is a fancy way of saying scientific notation for computers. And if you've got a 64-bit computer using standard binary floating point, there are 11 bits used for the power. The biggest number you can write down is something times 2 to an 11-bit number. But they actually go from positive to negative. So we would need something stronger than a Nintendo 64.
