Tony Schauci was throughout the Trump administration trusted and seen as an independent doctor who was not Trump aligned. At times, Dr. Birx and Dr. Redfield were seen as a bit more aligned with Trump which made people diminish their viewpoints. So I think there was an element of politics that did factor into it. In fairness to Dr. Fauci, he has always said that he's open to more investigation but that he didn't have any visibility into what was happening in the lab in China.
