Psychiatry - Is There a Treatment for Addiction?

i was addicted to all kinds of things, a like to the point of homelessness. When i got a diagnosed for by polar in my twenties, that wasn't the turning point. It all had to go through 12 step programmes. So what i'm really curious about is, this is 15, 20 years agoi what would there be help for me now? If i were in a position that, if i were actively abusing drugs or was recently clean, would psychiatry have new answers for me? They would have better answers, some of the, some of them are new. But m there are treatments that are more effective even than, say, twelvest.
