The Origin Story of Georgiana Landmaa
Georgiana Landmaa was born in 1882 in a village called Oldbury, Buckinghamshire. Her mother had been in domestic service and her father worked as a coachman. She left school at the age of 14 to do some nannying work but then decided she wanted to be a chef. After moving around London for a long time with her family they settled in Kensington Palace Gardens where she became one of six 'number 6s' on the kitchen staff. It's an interesting trajectory because just so many people didn't do that - 75% of women working in really small households were servants or bingling money bags.
