The Difference Between Athens and Sparta
Athenians are concerned above all with improvement. The spartans seek only stasis. Two opposite objectives. And this is the single source of all the other differences between the two cities. Athens wants improvement, while sparta wants stisis. But we haven't yet heard what exactly makes a dynamic society,. a society that values improvement.
