Steroid hormones can coordinate puberty, so they could have really long-term actions on growth, on sperm and egg production. It's mainly testosterone that affects the brain and body in boys in utero, coordinating the development of the brain with the development of a male reproductive system. And it is testosterone that coordinates the physical and behavioral traits that enable male animals to reproduce in utero.
