The Conservatives Are Not Giving Up Their Power
The conservative fear is that the liberal, tormented by ilt, will throw away the accumulated inheritance of western civilization in a fit of historical self abnegation. In the face of american history, white alites are two suspects who can't get their story straight. Only where the liberal wants absolution, the conservative wants freedom from ever being accused. Both are varieties of evasion, re focusing all conversation on the alibi rather than the crime.
