Lunar eclipses are important because of their astrological importance and periodicity. Astronomers would watch carefully to observe how they appeared, as other weather events could turn an unfavorable eclipse into a favorable omen. The ancient Babylonians did not have a sophisticated model for lunar eclipses like this, but they were able to recognize patterns.
