Howard Beale, the character in "Squeaky Fromme," is an old school newsman. The description that's used most often for him is that like he experiences a psychotic break. He says it wasn't anything to do with God or Christianity. It was Prana Prana Pranas and said it was a Hindu awakening. And so he explicitly notes that and the Hindu stuff is what really underlies this new age movement.
