Rindepest is an endemic disease of cattle in in asia. And almost certainly it jumped into man. Its actually very closely related to measles, human measles. There is some suggestion that measles actually evolved from rinderpest. It hit in 18 90, took six years to get to the cape, and decimated not only those populations, but of course, the human population,. because humans starved. The single most important biological thing you could study in east africa was renderpest. That's how research on life got started after a while.
