Scholars will differ in the level of the Jesus of history that they think could be reconstructed from, you know, the gospels tells us all sorts of useful information. And for me, when I work on where the area was of history, and particularly my modern areas of history, it made me a lot more skeptical about what we can know about the historical figure of Jesus. It's almost impossibly many cases to say whether this or that sane event or whatever happened. The best we can do is get behind ideas that predated the gospels that were particular to Galilee and Judea around that time.
