The Squire's Disappointment

There's huge blazing fire, which apparently got totally out of control on the set. And he puts his hands over his eyes and when he removes his hand, her eyes are closed. Why do you think he does that? I think he does. It's this measure of sympathy or empathy or connection with her to kind of try to ease the pain of what she's going to go through. Maybe he realizes this is something he's seen before or done before in the crusades. What about you? I definitely think he wants a duller pain.
