In 1968, when Congress finally gets around to writing the first federal wiretapping law, the first device that's banned as a result of this new law was the martini olive transmitter. For the simple reason that if you pour gin over the olive in your martini glass, the whole thing would short out. But this really captured the public imagination. And for me, this was such a like a perfect story of myth and reality blending together.
