The Unification Premium of Northern Ireland
When the Good Friday Agreement was signed, it was hoped Northern Ireland would benefit economically from what was termed a peace dividend. But evidence suggests a mixed picture for the extent to which that was a reality. Northern Ireland currently relies on a subvention or subsidy from Westminster. If a potential border poll was successful, a portion of that subsidy could fall instead to Dublin. It's looking under the bonnet and seeing what actually is here: Is this going to be a long term drain on our economy? And is that worth it?
