The Importance of Understanding Juneteenth
Julian Zelizer: I've heard people try to make sense of Juneteenth, and really try to convince Christians that it's worthy of celebrating. He says when Jesus becomes incarnate, he actually subjects himself to physical embodiment. And so with Jesus, he takes on this flesh, his embodiment almost demonstrates to us that because we are in this fallen state, having this embodied experience will often involve suffering. Zuckerman: We don't have to see the redemptive narrative working through Juneteenth in order to see its value.
