The character of Rose was also inspired by a real-life woman by the name of Beatrice Wood. She came from a wealthy American family, but she was more interested in avant-garde abstract art. Cameron went out of his way to meet with her on several occasions during development of the script. The dialogue in Titanic is famously bad and some reviews specifically target it. But writer James Hibbard defends the dialogue citing its efficiency.
