The History of Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a semi-parasite, requires other trees and other plants nearby in order to grow. Early silva culture experiments were largely monocultures. It takes time for sandalwood to develop the heartwood, which is the most fragrant part. The most fragrant trees with the most heartwood are over 50 years old.
